The Numbers Game

When I was a teenager, I did a fair amount of listening on the shortwave radio bands.  One of the most intriguing things I ever ran across was a very strong signal of a male voice announcing numbers in Spanish at even intervals.  It lasted for a few minutes then the signal dropped.  I ran into this one other time except it was in English instead.  I did some research on this and found out that these “numbers stations” were thought to be coded messages for spies from different countries around the world.  Now, all these years later I see they still get mention such as in this Washington Post article.  You would think all these years and with advances in technology there would be a better way to do something like this.

George W’s Greatest Lines

Here was an interesting page I ran across about the 50 Dumbest Things Bush Ever Said. Quite frankly, some of the things he has said and done are beyond the category of dumb. I really feel sorry for the people in his staff who constantly have to cringe when he appears in public for fear of things coming out like what is on the list. I’ve often wondered if he just gets nervous in front of people or if his mind is really all that jumbled up.

Don’t Shoot!

Apparently game wardens have a new weapon to catch illegal hunters.  Considering the lack of game warden staff in most places, this is a great idea.

Democracy In Video

I recently ran across a link to something called the Democracy Player.  It’s an open source media player for your PC that plays any video format imaginable.  It also taps into just about any source of free video available via the net.  I’ve watched a number of very nice documentaries through it.  The concept is to have a player to promote internet TV.  It would be worth checking out.

Scrooge Contest

Here is an article I found from Slate.com about a Corporate Scrooge Contest.  Some of the entries are quite shocking.  The sad thing is many of these employers probably have no clue why their actions would be viewed in a negative light.  I’ve attended more than my share of corporate events.  Some were great, some were awful.  The moral here is that people make the company work so you best do what you can to show that it is appreciated.

Site Changes

I’ve decided to make some major revisions to way this site operates.  In the past, you would see a mix of personal and non-personal items here.  I’ve decided to make this site an informational blog only.  What this means is that the only items you will see posted here are random news stories or other thoughts on things I have found on the net.  I try to post unique items or anything I feel strongly about.  Somehow I just didn’t feel comfortable about revealing personal items on here.
