Food Stamp Diet

I’ve often wondered how much food you could obtain if you lived solely on food stamps. Apparently there are a few legislators who decided to find out for themselves. I read their blogs and it’s telling to say the least. Frequent themes are skipping meals, drinking lots of water, and having to eliminate things from your shopping basket at the grocery store. Bottom line is that it’s no way to live since you can’t possibly have proper nutrition with such a limited selection. I think once the challenge is over that the lobbyists take advantage of the moment and wine and dine the legislators back to proper health. :)

The 1/6th Club

I remember as a kid watching those cartoons from clay with their lifelike representations of the real world in miniature. There is a club in the UK where they assemble and collect 1/6th scale figures and objects. As this page shows, some of these are amazingly real looking. When I first looked at the page, I almost thought these were real pictures from that era. If you look elsewhere on that forum, there are all kinds of galleries with other subject matter.

A Flash of Fire

You find examples all the time of great Flash animation on the web, but this one caught my eye recently. I like the song, I like what he did with the pictures, and I also like his encouragement in between the verses. A fitting tribute to a great songwriter who did visit Buffalo recently. A few people I’ve spoken to were quite surprised that he could sing all those high notes in his songs despite his age. As I always say, greatness is timeless!

Prom Prep

Here’s a concept: your kid wants to go to his or her school prom but in order to do so, you as the parent or guardian must attend a special meeting hosted by the school on drug and alcohol abuse. This school has apparently caught on to that idea. Regardless of this meeting, the parents that care will do what they can to make sure that prom night goes without incident. The parents that don’t care will either end up making a middle of the night visit to the police station or end up picking up their kid from the prom for being kicked out.

I think they should have gone a few steps further by making sure to emphasize that there was no need for their child to have to miss a day (or two) of school to prepare for the prom. I’ve even heard that some schools have been banning limousines and after prom parties. I’m all for a special prom night, but I’m not for hearing how kids end up in police custody or worse, at the hospital emergency room.
