George Carlin was one of those rare stand-up comics who wasn’t just out for cheap laughs. He would strike your main nerve by talking about things like the excesses of American culture or the hypocrisy of religion. Some of his routines are legendary. What’s interesting about him is that when he started, he was a fairly conservative and mild mannered comic. At some point that changed and all the better I think. Nothing was safe and he could cut anything or anyone done to the bare essence in just a few minutes. He passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from heart failure.
